The world of boxing is constantly on the lookout for new talents, and 2023 is no exception. As several athletes who competed in the 2022 Commonwealth Games have turned professional, many are poised for a successful first year in the sport.

One of the most notable rising boxing stars is Andrei Mikhailovich, a New Zealand boxer who has been consistently favoured in Boxing Betting Online for all his fights so far. With this growing online reputation, many are wondering if Mikhailovich is poised for even greater success in the coming year, and whether the New Zealand boxer is aiming for the world title.

Early Career:

Andrei Mikhailovich was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in December 1997. However, he was adopted when he was just 18 months old, along with his twin brother, which led to him making the move to New Zealand, representing it throughout his boxing career. Mikhailovich first stepped into the world of boxing at a very young age, yet many experts have claimed that his run as an amateur was nothing more than ‘decent’. Despite this, Mikhailovich landed several honours during these years, including claiming the North Island Golden Gloves Championship. He also challenged for the New Zealand national championships, and it was during this period that he was introduced to Isaac Peach, who would later become his manager and coach after turning professional.

Professional Debut:

After making a name for himself as an amateur, Mikhailovich finally decided to turn pro in 2018. His reputation reached new heights in his first 12 months as a professional, as he defeated a number of credible rivals. His first pro fight was staged at ABA Stadium in Auckland, where he claimed a second-round stoppage victory against Rob Ramsey. He was more workman-like in his second bout, as he won via unanimous decision against Jerome Pascua.

But it was a victory over Adrian Taihia that put him firmly on the map. Taihia was a tough opponent with proven experience at competing for national championships, and Mikhailovich's victory over him proved that he was a force to be reckoned with. He followed this up with a win over IBO Oceania champion Chase Haley. This ring time set him up perfectly for his first huge showdown against a rival.

The Jackson Rivalry:

After eliminating a number of respectable opponents, Mikhailovich faced Gunnar Jackson, a former top-ten WBO contender, who represented a significant step up in opposition. The Kiwi had previously called Jackson out for a fight, so there was already resentment between the two of them, and even more intriguingly, Jackson had already been defeated by Mikhailovich's trainer earlier in his professional career.

In the greatest fight of his career to date, Mikhailovich excelled, winning each round en route to a unanimous decision victory. After the victory, he also acquired his first championship: the New Zealand National Middleweight title. After defeating Marcus Heywood to win the PBCNZ Super Middleweight title, he later gained a second accolade.

The Hanan Rivalry:

Mikhailovich returned to the ring in June 2021 to engage in another grudge matchup, this time against Alex Hanan, after defeating Shay Brock via Knockout. The first confrontation between the two occurred in 2018, when Hanan made remarks about Mikhailovich before the Russian-born athlete said he intended to challenge Hanan.

Before the fight even started, Hanan landed a cheap blow on Mikhailovich, demonstrating the fierce animosity between the competitors. Mikhailovich, though, seemed unconcerned by this and won a shocking stoppage in the second round. The fight placed the Kiwi champion on the map, with a global fan following, as the antics leading up to and during the fight went viral.

Since that win, Mikhailovich has continued to showcase his dominance in Australia and New Zealand, scoring a second-round win over King Davidson in the following night, right before beating Ernesto Espana for the IBF Pan-Pacific and WBO Global middleweight titles.

Is Mikhailovich Poised to Take on the World?

The main goal for Mikhailovich will be to challenge for a world title at some point in 2023. However, he will likely need to improve his ranking before achieving that target, as he is currently ranked tenth in the IBF middleweight rankings. Nevertheless, his impressive record and growing reputation have positioned him as a fighter to watch in the coming year.

With his impressive record and growing reputation, many are wondering if Mikhailovich is poised for even greater success in the coming year and whether it could lead to a world title shot. He has been consistently favoured for boxing betting online at Casinoshub.com for all his fights so far. The platform also offers an extensive list of boxing events, betting odds, and live scores to help fans stay up-to-date with their favourite fighters.

Final Thoughts:

Mikhailovich has a tough journey ahead, facing tougher competition in the coming years, but his impressive track record and ability to take on his rivals indicate that he is poised to make his mark on the world stage. With the likes of Jeff Fenech as an Aussie Boxing Legend, Mikhailovich has some big shoes to fill, but he seems to be up for the challenge. Only time will tell if he can become a world champion, but one thing is certain - the boxing world will be watching closely as he continues to rise through the ranks.
