Christian Zionists Are Reminded That Not All Conservatives Are Friends Of Israel

As Israel wages a fierce and targeted campaign against Iran, waves of airstrikes shaking the region, an unexpected front has opened--not in the Middle East, but within the American conservative movement. President Donald Trump, long regarded as a champion of Israel by Christian Zionists and conservatives alike, is now walking a precarious tightrope within his own coalition. For those who support Israel both biblically and strategically, the moment is clarifying--and troubling.

What's becoming clear is this: not all conservatives are friends of Israel, and not all voices on the right agree about what America's role in the current conflict should be.

On one side are the Iran hawks and unapologetic Israel supporters--Christian Zionists, foreign policy realists, and those who have long warned of the growing nuclear threat posed by Tehran. For this camp, Israel's strikes are not a provocation, but a necessary act of self-defense. The possibility of a nuclear-armed Iran is not theoretical; it is an imminent and existential threat to both Israel and the wider West.

On the other side is a growing isolationist current--populists and "America First" purists--who argue that supporting Israel militarily or even politically could drag the U.S. into yet another foreign war. Their warnings are stark, and their influence is growing. Leading this charge is none other than Trump supporter Tucker Carlson, who has increasingly accused the United States of complicity in Israel's actions.

In a recent newsletter titled "This Could Be the Final Newsletter Before All-Out War," Carlson accused President Trump of being "complicit" in Israel's strikes on Iran, alleging that "Washington knew these attacks would happen" and "aided Israel in carrying them out." He continued: "Politicians purporting to be America First can't now credibly turn around and say they had nothing to do with it." Carlson suggested that Trump's own bragging--highlighting U.S. weapons being used by Israel--only further proved American involvement.

This narrative, increasingly popular in certain corners of the MAGA movement, suggests that supporting Israel's military defense is somehow a betrayal of American interests. But this is where Christian Zionists must draw a firm line. While we can respect concerns about endless wars and global overreach, equating Israel's right to self-defense with reckless interventionism is a dangerous mischaracterization--both morally and strategically.

Importantly, not all prominent populists share Carlson's view. Charlie Kirk, a staunch defender of Israel and vocal Christian conservative, has consistently supported Israel's right to defend itself. Yet even Kirk has acknowledged the internal struggle within the conservative movement. "No issue currently divides the right as much as foreign policy," he observed. And he's right. The conservative base is not monolithic, and nowhere is that more visible than in debates over the Middle East.

Others, such as podcaster Jack Posobiec, have warned that the optics of involvement--especially so close to an election--could split the MAGA coalition and jeopardize key swing states. "A direct strike on Iran right now would disastrously split the Trump coalition," he said. "Trump smartly ran against starting new wars. This is what the swing states voted for."

Yet it's worth remembering: Trump's stance on Israel has never been about war-mongering. His administration brokered the Abraham Accords, recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and unapologetically supported Israel's sovereignty and security. These were not moves made to please foreign policy elites--they were made in response to a deeper moral and biblical commitment shared by millions of American Christians.

Christian Zionists understand that our support for Israel is not just political--it is spiritual. We support Israel not because it is convenient, but because it is right. Not because it serves short-term interests, but because it aligns with God's long-term promises. Scripture calls us to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm 122:6), and to stand with God's chosen people--not only when it's easy, but when it's costly.

Iran is not just another country with competing geopolitical aims. It is a regime that funds terrorism, threatens its neighbors, and declares its intent to wipe Israel off the map. A nuclear Iran would embolden radical Islamists across the region and undermine every fragile peace treaty in the Middle East. Ignoring this threat does not preserve peace--it delays war until it's no longer on our terms.

President Trump now faces the difficult task of maintaining unity within a divided base. He must reassure populists wary of new conflicts while reaffirming his unwavering commitment to Israel's survival and America's moral obligation to stand by its allies. This is not an easy path--but it is a necessary one.

For Christian Zionists, the moment is a wake-up call. We can appreciate the voices of cultural clarity within the conservative movement, but we cannot allow foreign policy confusion to undermine our biblical convictions. Support for Israel must never be a secondary issue. It is a frontline cause, rooted not in politics, but in prophecy.

As the battle lines shift, we must remember: not every conservative is a friend of Israel. And in this hour, it's more important than ever to be one.
