Iga Swiatek says poor conditions in Cancun helped her win WTA Finals, reclaim No 1 ranking. You can bet on the tennis player's future success or play in an online casino at https://pinup-kazino-az.net/.

Iga Swiatek captured her first ever WTA Finals title in dramatic fashion on Monday evening in Cancun, Mexico. The Polish star defeated American Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-0 to punctuate a stellar 2023 season.

To the top

More importantly, the victory also marked Swiatek's return to the top of the women's tennis rankings. She reclaims the World No.1 spot that she lost to Aryna Sabalenka back in September after the US Open.

Though the prestigious ranking had occupied her mind in recent months, Swiatek said the poor playing conditions at this year's WTA Finals helped her stay focused on court. Between the wind, rain delays, and subpar court, she had to concentrate intently on adjusting her footwork and dialing in her shots.

«The tricky conditions kept me busy adjusting instead of thinking about the No.1 ranking», – Swiatek noted after the match. She explained that she had gotten distracted by the rankings race at tournaments like the US Open, but learned her lesson this time. By keeping her mind narrow and zoning in on execution, she played nearly flawless tennis all week.

Without problems for Swiatek

The 22-year-old absolutely steamrolled through a loaded WTA Finals field without dropping a single set. She allowed opponents just 20 games total across her four dominating matches. The final against Pegula was no different, as Swiatek raced through in just 59 minutes, losing only one game.

For Pegula, it was a frustrating end to what had otherwise been an impressive WTA Finals debut. She had beaten Swiatek just two months ago in Montreal. But on this night in Cancun, Pegula felt she went for too much against the steadier, more consistent Swiatek. The American racked up 23 unforced errors to just 6 for Swiatek.

«It was just one of those days where I felt like I was going for too much. She was just playing super solid», –  resigned Pegula commented after the match.

Problems with organization

The 2022 WTA Finals were mired in controversy from the start. The season-ending championships were hastily moved to Cancun just months ago, with players complaining about the court conditions and weather throughout the event.

Rain and wind delays pushed the women's semifinals to Sunday, and the finals to Monday evening. Sabalenka said she didn't even feel safe playing on the slippery court surface.

The next season is promising for the Polish athlete

But Swiatek, who picked up her 17th career title, embraced the challenges of the event. She used the tough conditions to sharpen her focus and execution. In the end, she blocked out all distractions, fixed her mind firmly on tennis, and achieved the remarkable 2022 capstone she dreamed of.

Regaining the top ranking and WTA Finals trophy in one glorious night solidifies Swiatek as the undisputed queen of the women's game right now. It serves as a warning that she will remain the player to beat in 2023 as well, with more major titles likely on the horizon.

At just 22-years-old, her mature mindset and championship poise suggest Iga Swiatek's reign may only just be getting started. If she can maintain the laser-like focus she displayed amid the mayhem in Cancun this past week, the possibilities seem endless for the humble and talented Pole.
