When Therapists Become Activists: The Rush To Transition Confused Children

A new investigative report is drawing much-needed attention to a disturbing trend in modern mental health care: ideologically driven therapists fast-tracking vulnerable children into irreversible gender transitions--sometimes after just a single Zoom consultation.
One clinic profiled, Curtis-Baker Therapeutic Services (CBTS), openly markets transition assessments for minors as young as 12 and offers approval letters for puberty blockers and hormone therapy after virtual sessions. Their website advertises "WPATH-compliant" evaluations and proudly states that they help families "navigate the gender journey"--a phrase that, in practice, means accelerating kids down a path of lifelong medical intervention, sterility, and surgical alteration.
These are not fringe outliers. CBTS is featured on Psychology Today, accepted by major insurers like Blue Cross Blue Shield and Tricare, and works directly with school districts to receive referrals. The clinic's own materials make no effort to hide their allegiance to critical gender theory, intersectional feminism, and other secular ideologies that aggressively reject biblical truth in favor of self-invention.
One former counselor familiar with WPATH protocols described it plainly: "Therapy should be about helping children understand themselves--not pushing them toward a lifetime of medical dependency. But clinics like this aren't neutral. They are activists with licenses."
And that, tragically, is where we find ourselves today.
The gatekeepers of mental health--once trusted guides through childhood confusion, trauma, and identity formation--have now become cheerleaders for irreversible change. In this new world of "affirmative care," any questioning of a child's self-proclaimed identity is seen as harmful.
Exploration is off-limits. Dissent is labeled hate. And parents, already navigating a confusing cultural landscape, are being emotionally blackmailed with the ultimate threat: affirm your child's gender--or risk their suicide.
That lie must be confronted.
While media headlines often repeat the narrative that transgender-identifying youth will kill themselves if not affirmed, the data tells a different story. A 2020 study by the Heritage Foundation found no significant difference in suicide risk between youth who medically transitioned and those who did not. In fact, some of the most comprehensive long-term studies--including one from Sweden, often cited as a model for gender care--showed that rates of suicide and psychiatric hospitalization actually increased after transition.
The truth is heartbreaking but clear: these interventions are not solving the problem. They are often making it worse.
Puberty blockers like Lupron were never developed for gender treatment. They are cancer drugs. Yet children are now given them to halt normal development with the promise that it's all "reversible"--a claim that even manufacturers dispute. Cross-sex hormones can cause infertility, sexual dysfunction, bone density loss, and cardiovascular problems. Mastectomies are now being performed on girls as young as 13.
These aren't just medical decisions. These are life-altering experiments--conducted on children who cannot possibly grasp the full weight of what they're being led into.
And behind all of it is a billion-dollar industry. Every step of the so-called "gender journey" is monetized--from the first therapy call to the last surgery. For pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and providers, each transitioning child represents tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue over a lifetime.
It's no wonder this system is protected. It's lucrative. It's ideologically entrenched. And it's spiritually blind.
This is not compassion. This is not love. And it is most certainly not truth.
As Christians, we believe that every child is created in the image of God--with purpose, dignity, and worth. That identity is not something we invent, but something we discover through relationship with our Creator. When we affirm confusion instead of truth, we are not saving lives--we are endangering them.
Parents must not be shamed into silence. Pastors must not be bullied into complicity. And churches must not retreat from this cultural battlefield. Now more than ever, we need voices of clarity and conviction--rooted in truth, saturated in love, and courageous enough to say no to a movement that is hurting children in the name of progress.
Therapists who fast-track children into transition are not offering healing--they are facilitating harm. And those who profit from this medicalized confusion will one day answer for it.
It's time to wake up, speak out, and protect the innocence of the next generation. The world may applaud "affirmation," but Christ calls us to truth.
